 Today, with the public's increasing interest in rejuvenating the skin and slowing the effects of the aging process, chemical peeling has emerged as an exciting supplement to anti-aging and preventative skin care. There are many different types and levels of chemical peels. At Spa-21 inside the Lombardi Plastic Surgery Center, we are pleased to offer glycolic chemical peels. Glycolic peels are used to improve and smooth the texture of the skin by removing its damaged outer layers.

 Glycolic acid treatments minimize the visible signs of aging, smooth complexions, balance irregular skin tone, soften dry skin, and promote a healthy, youthful glow.

Conditions Treated By Glycolic Chemical Peels

 Chemical peeling is often used to treat fine lines on the face, hands and neck. Wrinkles caused by over exposure to the sun, aging and hereditary factors can often be reduced or even eliminated with a glycolic chemical peel.

 Glycolic chemical peels may also be used to reduce the signs of irregular pigmentation of the skin, such as sunspots, age spots, liver spots, freckles, and blotchiness due to taking birth control pills may also be improved with chemical peeling.

Treating Acne with Glycolic Peels

 Glycolic Acid is one of the most effective substances to use in the treatment of acne and acne scarring. The glycolic acid rapidly exfoliates the skin, allowing dead skin cells to shed more effectively. By keeping dead skin cells and excess oil from clogging the hair follicle, pore blockages (comedones) and pimples can be drastically reduced.

What to Expect During Your Chemical Peel

 During your treatment, your skin will be cleansed and dried in preparation for the peeling agent to be applied. The glycolic acid is applied with a small brush, cotton pad or large cotton swab.

 You will feel a warming sensation soon after the exfoliating agent is applied. Some people say they feel just a slight stinging; others describe it as more of a burning. The length of time the peeling agent is left on varies, but the average is about 3 minutes.

 Next, the peel is removed with cool water and a neutralizing agent. The skin is dried and the peel is complete.

 After your peel, your skin will look like it's sunburned. This redness can fade in just a few hours time or last up to five days, depending on your skin’s sensitivity level. Chemical peels are typically performed in a series of treatments to achieve the best results.
